Regional Economic Strategy

The Regional Economic Strategy (RES) is the blueprint for the economic development of England's Northwest. Launched in March 2006, it sets out a clear vision for the region’s economy and identifies specific priority actions to meet the economic challenges and opportunities of the next ten years and close the economic gap with the rest of England.

The tourism sector has a key role in increasing productivity which in turn will help to reduce the economic gap.  The vision within the RES is of a “dynamic, sustainable international economy which competes on the basis of knowledge, advanced technology and an excellent quality of life for all."  It aims to achieve this vision by focussing on three major drivers:-

  • To improve productivity and grow the market

  • To grow the size and capability of the workforce

  • To create and maintain the conditions for sustainable growth

The Strategy for Tourism in England’s Northwest is designed to help deliver the outcomes of the RES.

The Government has tasked all regions to produce a single Integrated Regional Strategy, to replace the Regional Economic Strategy (RES), Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) and Regional Housing Strategy (RHS).       Part 1 of RS 2010 is currently being consulted upon by key organisations within England's Northwest and for further details of how you can contribute until the end of February 2010, click here:
