Strategy for Tourism in England's Northwest 2003 - 2010

Developing the Visitor Economy

The Strategy for Tourism in England’s Northwest, serves to guide the continued growth and success of the tourism sector in the region.   The current strategy updates the original Tourism Strategy which was published in June 2003.  The current document provides a mid-term review rather than a full reassessment of the sector and its competitive position

It outlines the steps needed in order to achieve the shared vision of delivering a world-class offering for all visitors to England’s Northwest including:

  • Strengthening the region’s focus on offering some of the best visitor destinations in the UK;

  • Connecting with the growing importance being attached to the role of local authorities in place shaping;

  • Ensuring that work is aligned with the new national thinking on tourism, and with the Regional Economic Strategy, and;

  • Giving centre stage to the principles of sustainable development.

This Strategy for Tourism is supported by the strategies produced by the individual tourist boards, some of which are being reviewed at present.
