Visions of ‘world class visitor experiences’ are widely adopted as proper aspirations for tourism. Yet there is also general agreement that the quality of the public realm and transport provision in many places is failing to keep up with rising visitor expectations and competitor destinations. Good infrastructure for visitors is crucial in delivering a high quality product and experience. The region has an extensive public transport network and there are a number of opportunities to improve the capacity and quality of mass transit to encourage more visitors to use public transport. Enhanced air and rail links with other parts of the UK and internationally, offer opportunities for growing inbound tourism which is crucial to improving the value of tourism to England’s Northwest. |
