Blackpool: 21st Century Resort Destination

The UK’s premier coastal resort, Blackpool, like other coastal resorts, is suffering decline.  Blackpool’s Masterplan is a 15 year regeneration plan which aims to transform the resort into a world class 21st century visitor destination that will provide a sustainable year round economy.   ReBlackpool, Blackpool’s urban regeneration company, is tasked with delivering the vision of Blackpool Resort Masterplan.

Following the introduction of Multi Area Agreements (MAA) that emerged in the Local Government White Paper - Strong and Prosperous Communities - which look to foster greater cross-boundary co-operation on economic development issues, Blackpool has been working with neighbouring Local Authorities to develop and deliver the Fylde Coast Multi Area Agreement. The focus of the MAA is on raising the economic prosperity of the Fylde Coast through developing the area's identity of place, growing the economic and business base, investing in skills and employment and strategically prioritising investment to tackle transport, planning and housing issues.   The Fylde Coast MAA is being developed and implemented by Blackpool Council, Fylde Borough Council, Wyre Borough Council and Lancashire County Council.

NWDA has also been working with key partners, including Re-Blackpool, Blackpool Council and the Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board to support a number of activities, including funding for infrastructure projects, including the Tower Festival Headland, the Blackpool 365 events programme, accomodation grants, quality initiatives and branding.
