Our aim is to increase the productivity and competitiveness of the tourism economy in England’s Northwest. Skills is a key driver of productivity, therefore we are seeking to develop a skilled and motivated workforce who are committed to providing outstanding service to visitors to the region.

If we have higher quality and productive businesses, these in turn will generate more prosperity for the region.  These productive businesses will generate more profit and need higher skilled staff and they will be able to offer better salaries and conditions, leading to more worthwhile careers.

There are many initiatives that are being progressed in the region through the work of the Tourism Sector Skills and Productivity Alliance (SSPA), People 1st (the Sector Skills Council for the Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism industries) , Business Link , Tourist Boards and the Northwest Regional Development Agency .  Further details are contained within this section.
